The 1920/21 NHL season was the fourth season of the National Hockey League (NHL). The season was played in a preliminary round and a second round with ten and 14 games respectively. The Ottawa Senators qualified against the Toronto St. Patricks for the finals, where they defeated the Vancouver Millionaires 3-2. With that they defended the Stanley Cup . The Quebec Bulldogs were sold to Hamilton and competed as the Hamilton Tigers . At the end of 1920, NHL President Frank Calder wanted to send two players from Ottawa to Hamilton to level the league. The players refused and stayed in Ottawa. Since the Senators felt disadvantaged by a referee, they left the ice in protest. Montreal shot two more hits into the empty goal and won the game 5-3.
