The 1934/35 NHL season was the 18th season in the National Hockey League . Nine teams played 48 games each. The Stanley Cup won the Montreal Maroons after a 3-0 win in the final series against the Toronto Maple Leafs . Just a few years ago, the NHL refused to add a team in St. Louis because of long distances. Now the Ottawa Senators have moved to this city. The new team was called the St. Louis Eagles . A salary cap brought a lot of movement to the NHL. A team could not pay more than $ 62,500 in salaries. A single player could not earn more than $ 7,000. Many players changed teams. The most prominent was Howie Morenz , who was an institution among the Montréal Canadiens . He moved to Chicago to the horror of the fans.
