Vezina Trophy
The Vezina Trophy is an ice hockey trophy that is awarded annually to the best goalkeepers in the National Hockey League . The award is based on a survey among the general managers of all teams.
Until 1982, the trophy was awarded to the goalkeeper (s) who had played at least 25 games during the regular season and whose team had the lowest number of goals conceded. Since this system emphasizes team performance rather than considering the individual, the mode was changed. The goalkeeper (s) with the lowest number of goals conceded on the team has been awarded the William M. Jennings Trophy since 1982 .
The Vezina Trophy is named after Georges Vezina , an exceptional Montréal Canadiens goalkeeper who collapsed during a game in 1925 and was later diagnosed with tuberculosis . After Vezina's death, the former team owners donated the trophy to the NHL to be awarded for the first time in the 1926/27 season. Jacques Plante is the previous record holder with 7 awards, followed by Bill Durnan and Dominik Hašek with 6 awards each.
