John Vanbiesbrouck (born September 4, 1963 in Detroit , Michigan ) is a former American ice hockey goalkeeper of Belgian - Italian descent who worked for the New York Rangers , Florida Panthers , Philadelphia Flyers , New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils in between 1981 and 2002 the National Hockey League was active.

Career

John Vanbiesbrouck began his career in the Canadian Junior League OHL , where he was goalkeeper for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds was. His talent was discovered early and the New York Rangers drew him in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft as the 72nd player in the fourth round. 1982 and 1983 Vanbiesbrouck played the Junior World Championship for the USA .

On December 5, 1981, the New York Rangers appointed him for the first time in the NHL due to a goalkeeper problem. At just 18 years old, Vanbiesbrouck was one of the match winners in the 2-1 win over the Colorado Rockies .

Together with Mike Richter he formed a great goalkeeper duo, but when you could only protect one goalkeeper for the NHL Expansion Draft in 1993 , the Rangers decided on the junior judge and gave Vanbiesbrouck to the Vancouver Canucks . The Canucks don't protect him and the Florida Panthers didn't let this chance slip by and brought him a goalkeeper. He stayed in Florida for five years and his greatest success there was reaching the Stanley Cup finals in 1996 .

At the end of his career, he played for the Philadelphia Flyers , the New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils .

Beezer, his nickname , completed the 1998 Winter Olympics , the Canada Cup 1987 and 1991 and the World Championships 1985 , 1989 and 1991 for the USA .
