Course of the game

The Eastern Conference players laid the foundations for their victory in the first and second third when they scored four and three consecutive goals. The Most Valuable Player of the game was Mark Recchi , who scored three goals and a hat trick . The same was achieved on the part of the Western Conference Owen Nolan at his "home game" in the San Jose Arena. He announced one of his three goals beforehand by pointing a finger in the selected corner of the goal guarded by Dominik Hašek .
