Jason William Arnott (born October 11, 1974 in Collingwood , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 1366 games for the Edmonton Oilers , New Jersey Devils , Dallas Stars , Nashville Predators , Washington during his playing career between 1991 and 2012 Capitals and St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League on the position of the center . Arnott celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the New Jersey Devils by winning the Stanley Cup in 2000 and in the jersey of the Canadian national team by winning the 1994 World Cup .
Career
Jason Arnott was drawn seventh in the first round in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers . Jason, like most centers, likes to use his body and thus creates a lot of space for his teammates; the fact that he also has a very good overview of the game makes him one of the strongest centers in the league. His only weakness is probably his susceptibility to injuries, as he has not been able to play a full season so far. But this has more to do with his aggressive style, because he doesn't shy away from physical contact and likes to check someone out on the gang.
Arnott got off to a fantastic start in his first NHL season in 1993/94 , scoring 33 goals and 68 points, a very remarkable achievement for a rookie, and was elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team . The only negative point was the 104 penalty minutes. He played for the Oilers for another three and a half years, while he did not come close to the 68-point mark due to some injuries, but he still played very good seasons like in the 1995/96 season when he scored 28 goals in 64 games and got 59 points. That year he had himself better under control and for the first time stayed below the 100 hurdle with 87 penalty minutes. During the 1997/98 NHL season he was transferred to the New Jersey Devils . He also played very well with the Devils and was finally able to gain real play-off experience. Arnott was able to develop well with the Devils; that he is now one of the strongest centers in the NHL, he was able to impressively show in the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2000 , when he was instrumental in the Stanley Cup victory with eight goals and 20 points in 23 games . In the following season he even scored more points than games for the first time, 59 points in 58 games.
During the 2001/02 season , he made the leap to the Dallas Stars . After slight teething problems, he probably played his best season so far in the 2005/06 season, as he set a personal record in games completed, goals, assists and points in one season. With 32 goals and 76 points in 81 games, he was just one point behind Mike Modano , the star center of the Dallas Stars. Arnott became a free agent at the end of the season. But since he didn't want to be number 2 again behind Modano, he signed a five-year contract for 4.5 million US dollars per year with the Nashville Predators . In the 2006/07 season he played most of the time with Steve Sullivan in the second row.
From the 2007-08 season he was the team captain of the Nashville Predators. On June 19, 2010 he was transferred to the New Jersey Devils. At the end of February 2011 they gave him to the Washington Capitals shortly before the trade deadline in exchange for Dave Steckel and a second-round vote in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft . On July 6, 2011, Arnott signed a one-year contract with the St. Louis Blues . In November 2013, the Canadian declared his career over.
International
For his home country, Arnott took part in the 1994 World Cup in Italy . He was used in eight tournament games and prepared six goals. In the end, he won the gold medal with the Canadian national team.
