The A group of the 58th Ice Hockey World Championships was held from April 25 to May 8, 1994 in the Italian cities of Bozen , Canazei and Milan in Italy . Further groups took place in Denmark , Slovakia and Spain .
A total of 35 teams took part in these world championships, which meant a new record; there were also two other teams that failed in qualifying for the C2 group. Originally 36 teams were supposed to take part, but North Korea decided not to participate and was automatically relegated. After a 33-year hiatus, Canada celebrated their 20th title win. After losing in the final in the penalty shootout at the Olympic ice hockey tournament this year, they have now won the penalty shootout title against Finland .

Mode and history
There were again changes in the C group area in the 1994 Olympic year. The initially planned C group with twelve teams and qualifying games as in the previous year was shelved and, as in 1992, a C2 group was reintroduced; the C group became the C1 group again. In the C1 group, the B group relegated team and the teams in positions 2–5 played in the last C World Cup ; In addition, with a wildcard came the strong Slovakia , which emerged from the collapse of Czechoslovakia on January 1, 1993 , and the equally strong Belarus , which had failed in the C group qualification the previous year . In the C2 group, the last six of the last C-WM and two qualifiers met. In the C2 qualification, the teams that failed in the qualification last year met with the exception of Belarus. There was also a small change in the A group, where this year, as in 1992, only the two sixth placed in the preliminary round should fight against relegation.
