Vesa Erik Hämäläinen (born April 20, 1965 in Rauma ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who played for Lukko Rauma , KalPa Kuopio and Jokerit Helsinki in the SM-liiga from 1982 to 2008 .

Career

Erik Hämäläinen began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown with Lukko Rauma , for whom he was active in the SM-liiga for six years from 1982 to 1988 . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1985 in the tenth round as a total of 197 players by the Detroit Red Wings , for which he however never played. In his last season in Rauma, in the 1987/88 season, he was the Finnish runner-up with the team. The defender then moved to Rauma's league rivals KalPa Kuopio , for whom he played until 1992. Before the 1992/93 season Hämäläinen was committed by Jokerit Helsinki , with whom he was Finnish champion for the first and only time in his career in 1994 . The following year Hämäläinen reached the final again with his team, but in which he and his team lost to TPS Turku after games with 2: 3, and won the European Cup .

In the summer of 1995 the Finn moved to AIK Solna in the Swedish Elitserien , for which he appeared for three years. He then returned to his Finnish homeland, where he was on the ice for three more seasons for his ex-club Lukko Rauma. After Hämäläinen was again abroad in the 2001/02 season at SC Langnau in the Swiss National League A , the defender played again for Lukko Rauma in the SM-liiga, where he had his 26 years earlier, until the end of his career in 2008 Career had started.

International

For Finland , Hämäläinen took part in the U20 Junior World Championships in 1984 and 1985 , as well as the A-World Championships in 1992 , 1993 , 1994 and 1995 . He was also in Finland's squad at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer .
