The Finnish national ice hockey team is one of the leading national teams in the world and is ranked 3rd in the IIHF world rankings after the 2019 World Cup . It is run by the Suomen Jääkiekkoliitto . Finland's main tournament wins were the 1995 , 2011 and 2019 World Championships . At the Olympic Winter Games in 1988 and 2006 Finland was able to win the silver medal. The Finnish national team came second at the World Cup of Hockey 2004 , and won the Channel One Cup in 2003 and 2009 , and the Euro Hockey Tour in 1996/97 and 1999/2000 to 2003/2004 . Jukka Jalonen has been the Lions' head coach since 2018 .
