← Nagano 1998 |
At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , a women's tournament took place for the second time after Nagano in addition to the men's ice hockey tournament.
For Mr. tournament was as in Nagano in 1998 through negotiations between IOC Hockey Federation (and International IIHF ) with the North American professional league NHL to ensure that the NHL took a break for the time of the Winter Games. In return, the big six ice hockey nations were set for the final round and only had to intervene in the action a week later.
In contrast to 1998, in 2002 the North American teams Canada and USA in particular took advantage of the advantages offered by the use of players from the world's best ice hockey league. The US men, like the women, could not use the home advantage to win the Olympics.
