Sledge ice hockey was represented at the 2006 Winter Paralympics for the fourth time since 1994 at the Paralympics. 120 players from eight nations took part inthe athletes with disabilities of the lower extremities .

In addition to hosts Italy, the three best teams from the last Sledge Ice Hockey World Championship in 2004, Norway, USA, Sweden, Canada as North American representatives, Japan for Asia and Germany as reigning European champions qualified for the tournament. The last starting place reached Great Britain in a qualifying tournament in November 2005 in Turin.

The venue for the tournament was the converted Torino Esposizioni exhibition hall .

Qualifying tournament 2005

From November 5 to 7, 2005 , the Torino Esposizioni in Turin, which was converted into an Olympic ice hockey hall, hosted the qualifying tournament for the Paralympic Winter Games.
