Esbrem ) is partly in the municipality, the part on the other side of the Au belongs to the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde or the municipality of Güby . Another district is Altmühl.

history

The place name was documented in writing in 1575/1576 and means about the village of Gælli . It is made up of -torf (adän. Thorp , mndt. Dorp ) for village, settlement and * Gælli as a subsidiary form of the Old Norse nickname Gellir (cf. Old Norse. Gella ≈ roar, i.e. the roaring). A parallel is Gjellerup in West Jutland.

Until the German-Danish War in 1864, the place belonged to the Duchy of Schleswig, which was a fiefdom of Denmark. Ecclesiastically, the place belonged to the parish Haddeby ( Haddeby Sogn ).

Culture

The village life in the community of Geltorf is shaped by several clubs and associations. These include the "Geldkörper Schüttengill vun 1863", the Geltorf volunteer fire brigade and the "Geldkörper Punschtied". "Reimers Gasthof" is located in the heart of the municipality. This represents the center of the village. Here the rifle guild celebrates its festival, the fire brigade organizes their balls and the citizens celebrate their anniversaries and birthdays. But the Drews family also organizes many buffets and even concerts on their own initiative.

Geltorf Volunteer Fire Brigade

Outside the village pitcher, the volunteer fire brigade organizes Easter bonfires and chestnut barbecues right at the fire station . The same tries every year in which the temperatures allow it to organize an ice stock sport in the community. One of the fixed dates of the fire brigade in the community is gambling that is carried out together with the Selk volunteer fire brigade. She also organizes a public fire brigade ball in the community inn.

Money body punched

The "Geldkörper Punschtied" is a small Christmas market, which is planned and carried out by an interest group of the Geltorfer Wirtschaftsbetriebe. The first edition took place in 2003. In the first few years it was held on the forecourt of the bus stop. It now offers space for your visitors under the canopy of the fire station. Every year around 400 visitors come to this event on the Saturday of the fourth weekend in Advent. The generated surpluses flow into the beautification of the community, so gradually all street lamps were provided with Advent stars and the playground received new play equipment.
