Course of the road

The federal highway 76 (abbreviation: B 76 ) runs in Schleswig-Holstein from Schleswig via Eckernförde to Kiel , and from there on via Plön , Eutin and the Baltic seaside resorts on the Bay of Lübeck as a spa road to Lübeck-Travemünde , where it joins the B 75 .
Course and traffic volume
Since the downgrading of the northernmost part of the federal highway 76 between Flensburg and Schleswig, which runs parallel to the A 7 , to the Schleswig-Holstein state road 317, the B 76 begins on the B 201 .
At the height of the Haithabu excavation site , the road turns south of Schleswig into federal highway 77 to Rendsburg, while the B 76 runs along the southern bank of the Schlei via Fleckeby to Eckernförde . Between Kosel (K 57) and Fleckeby (K 86) is one of the least traveled sections with a DTV of 10,000 vehicles / 24h.
In the northern urban area of Eckernförde , the B 76 divides the route for almost two kilometers with the B 203 , this section has a DTV of 24,000 vehicles / 24h. Directly north of the division of the B 76 and B 203 is a permanent counting point, here 12,000 vehicles / 24h and 600 vehicles / 24h heavy traffic (as of 2018) are determined.
In Kiel, the B 76 forms a busy city motorway that connects the east and west banks of the Kiel Fjord. Between the connection to the 503 and the Kronshagen-Nord L 194 exit is the busiest section with 82,200 vehicles per 24 hours, and the next section to the Kiel-Mitte junction to the A 215 is 80,900 vehicles per 24 hours and the one from there to Westring K 10 south of Ikea with 75,100 vehicles / 24 hours almost as busy.
There are intersections or intersections with federal highways 202 , 404 , 502 ; In large parts of the city of Kiel and Raisdorf , the B 76 and the B 202 run on a shared four-lane route.
The Preetz bypass between K53 and L49 is used by 12,000 vehicles per 24 hours.
In the urban area of Plön, the B 76 divides the route over approx. 1,000 meters with the B 430 , with traffic volumes of 19,400 vehicles per 24 hours.
Between the motorway junctions Eutin and Scharbeutz , it follows the course of the A 1 after the B 76 was removed from Haffkrug in the 1980s . After Scharbeutz, the B 76 opens up the seaside resort of Timmendorfer Strand and its district of Niendorf and ends in Lübeck-Travemünde on the motorway-like B 75 , this last section is the one with the lowest measured traffic density, 8,000 vehicles / 24h.
history
origin
The expansion of the overland route to the Chaussee began in the middle of the 19th century with the first construction sections Eutin – Süsel (1844) and Kiel – Preetz (1843/1844). The northern section between Flensburg and Schleswig was built in 1846. The southern section between Kiel and Eutin was completed in 1849 with the section between Plön and Eutin. The road from Bad Schwartau via Pansdorf and Pönitz to the cross with the B 76 at Süseler Baum (the former federal road 207 ) as the shortest connection from Lübeck to Eutin was completed in 1841.
The section between Eckernförde and Schleswig was only expanded into a road in 1882. The B 76 was previously called Reichsstraße Haffkrug-Kupfermühle.
Previous routes and names
With the original numbering in 1932, the then long-distance road 76 (FVS 76) , renamed Reichsstraße 76 (R 76) from 1934, led from Flensburg to Lübeck. In Kiel, the Reichsstraße ran through the city center via Königsweg and Alte Lübecker Chaussee.
Replacements
- The section between Flensburg and Schleswig was later replaced by the Federal Motorway 7 (1978 gap on the A 7 to the Danish border).
- Since June 14, 2004, the route has passed the town of Preetz and the community of Schellhorn to the east.
- On November 20, 2004, the eastern bypass of the village of Gettorf was inaugurated and now flows into the four-lane expansion in the direction of Kiel.
- The section in Eckernförde between the exit to the B 203 in the north and Lornsenplatz in the south was expanded to four lanes from summer 2009 to November 2014.
- In the city of Kiel, the original route (First Levensauer Hochbrücke - Eckernförder Straße - Sternstraße - Ringstraße - Königsweg - Alte Lübecker Chaussee) has been almost completely replaced or relocated: The main road - between Eckernförde and Raisdorf, with no traffic lights - now leads over a canal bridge built in 1984 ( second Levensau high bridge) and (as Olof-Palme-Damm, formerly partly Mühlenweg) west around the city center and on a bridge over Joachimsplatz; it has direct, intersection-free connections to the federal motorway 215 and the B 503 .
