The federal highway S (abbreviation: B S ) was a replacement federal highway in West Berlin from the 1960s to the 1980s . It led in a west-east direction from Rathenauplatz in the then Wilmersdorf u. a. over the Kurfürstendamm and along the Landwehr Canal to the Schlesisches Tor in the then Kreuzberg district . After German reunification in 1990, the federal highway was disbanded.
overview
- Starting point: Rathenauplatz (junction of the Berlin city motorway )
- End point: Skalitzer Straße / Schlesische Straße
course
After starting at Rathenauplatz, the main road ran over Kurfürstendamm, Olivaer Platz , Lietzenburger Straße , An der Urania, Schillstraße and Lützowplatz , where the Landwehr Canal was reached. In an easterly direction, the traffic was then on the south bank of the canal via Lützowufer, Schöneberger Ufer, Tempelhofer Ufer, and Waterloo-Ufer, while the federal road in a westerly direction on the northern bank of the canal via Hallesches Ufer , Reichpietschufer and Köbisstraße again reached Lützowplatz. The eastern end point at the Schlesisches Tor was finally reached via Gitschiner Strasse and Skalitzer Strasse .
The road is a forerunner of the later planned federal motorway 106 , which was called the southern bypass . The part of the Lietzenburger Straße , which was laid out as a new line, was also called this from 1961 to 1963. This should explain the name of the federal highway with the first letter "S".
At the beginning of the 1990s, the federal road S was abolished. Its part between Hallescher Tor and Potsdamer Brücke has been included in the new route of Bundesstraße 96 .
