  • The B472 (abbreviation: B 472 ) is a German federal highway in Bavaria . It leads from Marktoberdorf on the northern edge of the Bavarian Alps via Schongau , Peiting , Peißenberg , Bad Tölz and Miesbach to Irschenberg . Together with the B 12 and A 8, it represents an alternative route from Lake Constance to Salzburg .

In the last few decades, the capacity of the federal road has been increased through a partly three-lane expansion and partly by building bypasses. The construction of a pre-Alpine motorway was planned until 1980 . These plans have since been rejected.

    course

The federal highway 472 runs in Bavaria and begins in the Ostallgäu district ( administrative region Swabia ) at the B 12 ( Kempten - Munich ) exit Marktoberdorf-West. It leads in an easterly direction through the urban area of Marktoberdorf and meets the B 16 ( Kaufbeuren - Füssen ) with which it runs for about one kilometer.

After leaving Marktoberdorf, the B 472 runs in an easterly direction, partly through hamlets, partly on already developed sections and bypasses. At Krottenhill, the B 472 has three lanes. Here it reaches the district of Weilheim-Schongau in the administrative district of Upper Bavaria .

The B 472 then reaches the Schongau / Peiting bypass . Here it meets the B 17 (towards Augsburg ), with which it continues south. After crossing the Schongau Lechtal bridge , the B 17 leaves the Schongau / Peiting bypass in the direction of Füssen. The B 472 continues in an easterly direction, where the B 23 (towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) joins at the Peiting-Süd exit .

In the further course the route reaches Hohenpeißenberg . Now go down the street (3-stiff expansion) to Peißenberg and reach the local bypass. After crossing the Guggenberg tunnel, the B 472 leaves the route (this continues as state road 2058 towards Weilheim ) to the east. The next place is Oberhausen followed by Huglfing . Now the route meets the B 2 (towards Starnberg ), with which it runs together for around 3.5 kilometers to the south. West of Obersöchering , the B 472 branches off towards the east (the B 2 continues towards Murnau ) and after a few bypasses reaches the A 95 (Munich-Garmisch-Partenkirchen) AS Sindelsdorf (9).

The route crosses the Loisach past Sindelsdorf and reaches the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district . In the further course, shortly before the Bichl bypass , the B 472 reaches the B 11 (towards Kochel am See ), with which it runs approximately three kilometers to the east. At Untersteinbach, the B 11 branches off towards Königsdorf . This is followed by the Bad Heilbrunn thoroughfare . The B 472 now reaches Bad Tölz , where it meets the B 13 ( Holzkirchen - Sylvensteinspeicher ). After a few bypasses, the route before Waakirchen reaches the Miesbach district . After driving through the village, the B 472 meets several federal highways at an intersection near Moosrain:

The B 472 runs together with the B 307 past the Durnbach War Cemetery and further east towards Miesbach. At the southern entrance to the village, the B 307 branches off towards Bayrischzell . The B 472 runs north through Miesbach . At the northern exit of the village, the B 472 branches off to the northeast. After about seven kilometers it reaches its end point on the A 8 AS Irschenberg (99).

    history

    Previous routes and names

On January 1, 1962, the Bavarian State Road 2010 was rededicated as Bundesstraße 472. But sections of the route already existed earlier. In 1889, for example, the newly built country road between Peißenberg and Schongau was opened to traffic, which led past the southern edge of the Hohen Peißenberg . Until 1934 the street was designated as Bavarian State Road No. 138 (Tölz - Schongau - Oberdorf) because the street number was based on the first letter of the starting place (T).

    Replacements

Hohenpeißenberg bypass under construction in April 2014

Until the 1970s, the B 472 continued at its western end via Geisenried , Unterthingau , Wildpoldsried and Betzigau to Kempten. In the course of the new construction of the B 12 between Kempten and Buchloe , the B 472 was shortened to Marktoberdorf-West.

A pre-Alpine motorway (A 98) was planned by 1980 . However, these plans were abandoned due to the enormous costs, the insufficiently verifiable need and a lack of acceptance. As an alternative, the existing B 12 and B 472 were and will be expanded to create a powerful west-east axis.

Many sections of the route have already been expanded (road widened, curve radii increased, inclines flattened and overtaking opportunities created). Numerous cities and municipalities along the route were relieved of through traffic by building bypasses.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the Bad Tölz, Bichl and Obersöchering bypasses were built. The Schongau / Peiting bypass followed in 1997, and the Peißenberg bypass in 2008.

The 1.4 km Hohenpeißenberg bypass was built from July 2009 to December 18, 2017 and then closed for another three weeks in summer 2018 due to final asphalting work. The opening originally planned for 2012 was delayed by five years due to problems with the soil on the route. Since May 2019, part of a passing lane has been closed due to a landslide ; as of November 2019, stabilization of the slope at this point is not yet in sight.

    Further expansion

Road south of Peiting during renewal of the road surface in October 2018

Lines currently planned or under construction are (from west to east):

    • Marktoberdorf and Bertoldshofen bypasses including a 599 m long tunnel northeast of Bertoldshofen. Coming from the east, the B 472 will end at a roundabout north of Bertoldshofen; the north-western section of the bypass and the subsequent existing route to Marktoberdorf will then become parts of federal highway 16 as part of the Marktoberdorf bypass. (As of February 2019: under construction, completion planned for the end of 2021)
    • Expansion between Bertoldshofen and Ingenried (as of August 2018: One section under construction, planned for two more construction to begin in 2019 [out of date] )
    • Establishment of overtaking lanes southwest of Schongau as a planned but not feasible measure in the medium term
    • Huglfing bypass (as "additional requirement" in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 )
    • Bad Heilbrunn bypass (as "additional requirement" in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030)
    • Bad Tölz-Nord bypass (as of August 2018: in planning)
    • Waakirchen bypass (as an "urgent need" in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030)

    tourism

    Attractions

The federal road 472 leads through the Pfaffenwinkel . Therefore, numerous churches, monasteries and castles can be visited along the route. These include u. a. the prince-bishop's castle in Marktoberdorf , the baroque parish church of St. Georg in Ingenried, the Romanesque basilica in Altenstadt or the pilgrimage church of the Assumption of Mary (Hohenpeißenberg) . There are also a few museums, e.g. B. the mine museum in Peißenberg. The Schongau Lechtal bridge , the Hohenpeißenberg meteorological observatory or the magnificent ensemble of Bad Tölz's Marktstrasse are also worth seeing.

    Viewpoints

From the Hohen Peißenberg you have a wide view of the surroundings.

    Scenic routes

The entire route is scenic. The B 472 runs along the northern edge of the Bavarian Alps ( Allgäu Alps , Ammergau Alps and Bavarian Prealps ) through the Alpine foothills , which are characterized by flat, partly hilly meadow landscapes and forest areas.
