history

Until the 18th century

Celtic evidence suggests that the area around Bad Heilbrunn was already known in the early days for its medicinal springs (high iodine and salt content ). Apparently salt was extracted from the spring. The spring was later filled in by the Huns .

The Benedictine abbey was founded in Benediktbeuern in the 8th century . For a long time after its rediscovery, the iodine source was part of it. In 1159 the healing spring and with it the hamlet was first mentioned in a document. This is considered the year Bad Heilbrunn was founded. In the period that followed, the medicinal water became known nationwide, so that a church was built next to the spring in 1253. From the associated cemetery you can see far into the Loisach Valley.

Wilhelm IV , Duke of Bavaria, was the first nobleman to visit Heilbrunn in 1537 , initially alone. In 1544 Wilhelm IV came to Heilbrunn for a cure with his wife . The Electress Henriette Adelheid of Savoy , the wife of Elector Ferdinand Maria of Bavaria , went to the cure in Heilbrunn in 1659 with a large entourage. The reason for staying near the spring was the childlessness that plagued the princely couple for seven years. A little later she gave birth to the longed-for heir to the throne, Max Emanuel , later known as the Blue Elector, and with Prince Eugene, the savior of Vienna during the siege by the Turks.

In 1660 "Melchior Wörner, landlord zu Hailprun" had to cede "Wildpadt Hailbrunn, associated Gehilz and Reindlbach" to the Benediktbeuern monastery because of high debts. With the healing success attributed to the iodine source, Heilbrunn became the electoral court bath , which was visited by the Munich princes for six generations.

The large bathhouse , on the remains of which the present rectory stands, was built in 1730.

19th to 21st century

When the community was formed at the beginning of the 19th century, the tax districts Steinbach, Oberbuchenau, Schönrain and Heilbrunn were merged to form the community of Steinbach. On January 5, 1828 it was divided into the communities Steinbach, Oberbuchen and Schönrain. On February 15, 1934, the community was renamed from Steinbach to Bad Heilbrunn . King Ludwig I had the spring renamed Adelheidquelle after the Electress Adelheid in 1832. The later Jodquellen AG bought the Bad Heilbrunner Jodquelle in 1920. On February 15, 1934, the place received the rating spa. The park near the Parkvilla became Adelheid Park in 1995 with the permission of the Wittelsbach family. In 2005, Bad Heilbrunn was awarded the rating of climatic health resort. The community celebrated its 850th anniversary in 2009.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1969, the uninhabited uninhabited area of Bad Heilbrunn with an area of 6.57 km² (656.9863 ha ) was dissolved and incorporated into the community of Bad Heilbrunn.

On April 1, 1971, the formerly independent municipality of Oberbuchen with the towns of Bernwies, Graben, Hub, Linden, Oberbuchen, Ramsau, Unterbuchen, Weiherweber, Wieshäusl and Wörnern was incorporated into Bad Heilbrunn.

On May 1, 1978, the places Bocksberg, Fletzen, Hohenbirken, Karpfsee, Letten, Mürnsee, Nantesbuch, Podling, Reindlschmiede and Unterkarpfsee were added to the dissolved community of Schönrain .

Attractions

The baroque church of St. Kilian in the center with frescoes "around the (medicinal) water" is worth seeing .

Only a few years ago the Park Villa, built around 1920 by Gabriel von Seidl , was completely renovated and converted into a modern health center and conference center. In the Kurvilla there is a small café with a sun terrace from which you can enjoy the view over the Loisach Valley .

The privately owned iodine source was closed at the beginning of 2005 by Jod AG. For this reason, the community has acquired the title of "healing climatic health resort" and developed the Bad Heilbrunn climate terrain cure for this purpose. In 2012, the community acquired all of the property from Jod AG (except for the source) and immediately began demolishing the foyer and the spa hotel to create a new center.

In October 2009 the "Herbal Adventure Park" with more than 400 different wild and medicinal herbs was opened in the spa park as part of the "Herbal Adventure Region Tölzer Land". “Herbal Pedagogues” offer guided tours; Herbal products can be purchased in a herb shop.

Sport and recreation

The most frequently used local bathing area is the Schönauer Weiher , a natural moor lake that can be used free of charge with showers and changing rooms. There are other moor lakes in the area. The former Heilbrunn open-air pool (near Gasthof Reindlschmiede) was an artificial bath fed with moor water. From July 2006 this outdoor pool was closed due to the appearance of blue-green algae. A renovation was rejected by the local council due to high costs and the pool was converted into a pond in autumn 2007.

There is also a climbing garden with levels of difficulty from 2 to 7. It is located near the village and can be used all year round.

Bad Heilbrunn is also home to one of the largest fitness centers in the Bavarian Oberland, the "Vitarea" with a sauna area and beach volleyball court.

For popular sports, Bad Heilbrunn offers soccer for senior and youth teams, skiing for all age groups, gymnastics, tennis and cardiac sports under the leadership of SV Bad Heilbrunn - founded in 1959. The EC Bad Heilbrunn offers ice stock sports with paved summer stock sports tracks that were modernized in 2017.

The first men's team of SV Bad Heilbrunn has been playing in the regional soccer league Southwest Bavaria since the 2019/20 season after being promoted three times in a row without bonuses and mainly with local soccer players. An Upper Bavarian runner-up indoor championship at the beginning of the 2000s is also on the list of successes, as is the successes of the youth teams up to the district final of the Merkur Cup .

Regular events

For several years now, the community and innkeepers have been organizing the “Ramstage” in spring, where everything revolves around wild garlic ( old Bavarian : “Rams”).

In the "Herbal Experience Community Bad Heilbrunn", courses for the certification of herbal educators are held regularly. Guided tours and workshops take place in the herb adventure park all year round. The “herbal magic” and the annual music festival take place every two years.
