Georg Beis

Georg Beis (born September 13, 1923 in Bad Heilbrunn ) is a German Roman Catholic clergyman and dean emeritus . At the time of the vacancy between Archbishop Josef Stimpfle and Bishop Viktor Josef Dammertz OSB, he was the diocesan administrator of the Diocese of Augsburg .

Life

After studying Catholic theology, Beis was ordained a priest on May 21, 1950, together with Max Ziegelbauer, who later became Auxiliary Bishop and Provost . After years of pastoral care as chaplain in Gersthofen and city preacher in Günzburg , he became pastor in Unterthingau in 1958 and in Göggingen in 1961 . In 1968 he was appointed cathedral priest and city dean in Augsburg . In 1970 he was sworn to the position of cathedral capital . In 1985 he was appointed dean of the cathedral . During the time of the vacancy between Bishop Josef Stimpfle and Bishop Viktor Josef Dammertz OSB, he headed the diocese of Augsburg as diocesan administrator from April 1, 1992 to January 31, 1993 . Pope John Paul II appointed him papal honorary prelate on May 25, 1983 . On July 22, 1993, he received the seldom bestowed title of Apostolic Protonotary . Beis retires in 1993. He lives and works as a retirement pastor in the parish of St. Ulrich and Afra in Augsburg. For years he celebrated Holy Mass every Sunday morning until he was 93 in St. Margaret's Church in downtown Augsburg. His attachment to the decisions of the Second Vatican Council became clear in his sermons and thoughts during the mass celebrations. He lives in a retirement home.

On November 16, 1993, he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
