My Father's Fame is a French feature film from 1990. It is the first part of the film adaptation of the autobiographical novel A Childhood in Provence by Marcel Pagnol . The second part followed in the same year with My Mother's Castle .
action
Marcel was born to a teacher and a seamstress. He takes part in class at an early age and thus learns to read on the side. When he was 11, his parents and uncle Jules rent a house in Provence. Marcel, his brother Paul, his sister, his parents as well as Aunt Rose, Uncle Jules and their baby spend the summer holidays there. Marcel gets to know Edmond from the Butterflies (Edmond des Papillons) and Lili. He soon became friends with Lili and through him he got to know the environment and nature intensively. Marcel secretly accompanies the hunters so that his father, who is inexperienced in hunting, is not outdone by Uncle Jules. By chance he scares up Alpine stone hens and his father meets two of them. The father adorns himself with the fame of this hunt and Marcel is glad that he contributed to it.
criticism
The lexicon of international films describes the film as "lovingly staged". The “film, carried by delicate humor, impresses above all with its beautifully photographed landscape shots and the sensitive and natural play of the actors”.
Awards
My father's fame was awarded the Golden Space Needle for Best Picture at the Seattle International Film Festival . The triple nomination for the French César in the same year did not lead to a prize in any category.
