The Koblenzer Brauerei (formerly Königsbacher Brewery ) is a brewery in Koblenz , which is run by the Koblenzer Brauerei GmbH . The traditional company started in 1689 with the brewing of beer in the "Old Brewery" in Koblenz's old town . In 1885 operations were relocated to the Königsbach , which flows into the south of the city towards the Rhine. The Königsbacher brewery has been part of the Karlsberg group of companies since 1992 . On January 1, 2010, Bitburger Holding took over the national distribution and trademark rights for the “Königsbacher” and “Nette Edel Pils” varieties, but the international trademark and distribution rights continued to belong to Karlsberg. On January 1, 2012, Karlsberg sold the brewery on Königsbach to private individuals from Koblenz.

location
The Koblenz brewery is located in the Stolzenfels district . The former name of Königsbacher was derived from the already mentioned body of water that flows into the Rhine near the brewery. The federal road 9 leads directly past the brewery. It also has its own railway operations center on the left-hand side of the Rhine called Königsbach (b Kapellen-Stolzenfels) . There, another track is connected to the track on the Rhine side, on which trains can be loaded.
history
The first brewery was founded in 1689 in the "Old Brewery" in Koblenz's old town. The people of Koblenz brewed their own beer in the former “Rathaus Monreal”. The basis was the beer privilege of Elector Lothar von Metternich from 1608, in which the city of Koblenz was given the right to produce its own beer. After the French occupation of Koblenz, Johann Stahl took over the brewery in 1814.
In 1884 Josef Thillmann bought the "Old Brewery " and in 1885 founded the "Josef Thillmann Beer Brewery". He moved the production site to the current location on Königsbach in the south of Koblenz.
In 1900 the company changed its name to "Königsbacher Brauerei AG" and in the same year acquired the "Prümm'sche Brewery" in Niedermendig . This was followed in 1913 by the purchase of the "Nassauer Union Brewery" in Nassau (Lahn) and in 1938 by the acquisition of the "J. Bubser Brauerei zur Nette ”in Weißenthurm . The latter had acquired the brewing rights of the breweries “Leifert” in Andernach , “Volz” in Dierdorf , “Masson” in Hillesheim and the brewery of the Brethren in Neuwied between 1914 and 1923 and incorporated them into the brewery of the Nette. In 1965 the Königsbacher brewery bought the “Gebr. Fuchs - Kirchberger Brauhaus ”in Kirchberg (Hunsrück) and in 1971 the majority in“ Hirschbrauerei AG ”in Düsseldorf .
The tank house built by Königsbacher in 1970 is one of the largest in Europe. In 1974 a fully automated filling system for stainless steel drums followed, the first of its kind in Germany, and in 1974 an own sewage treatment plant was put into operation. The connection to the corporate group of the Karlsberg brewery followed in 1992. Since 1997, the Nette Edel Pils has been brewed in the Königsbacher.
In 2010 Bitburger Holding took over the distribution and branding rights for the beer brands "Königsbacher" and "Nette Edel Pils". However, the production facility remained at the brewery in Koblenz, which still belonged to Karlsberg. Beers that had previously been produced in the Karlsberg brewery in Saverne , France and were intended for foreign markets should also be brewed and bottled there. The Zischke brand also remained with Karlsberg.
On January 1, 2012, Karlsberg sold the brewery on Königsbach together with the Zischke brand to Egon Heckmann, managing partner of the Rhenser Mineralbrunnens , and to Isabell Schulte-Wissermann (lawyer). The two owners founded the Koblenzer Brauerei GmbH . The contracts with the Bitburger brewery on the brand and distribution rights remain valid. The beers from Koblenzer Brauerei GmbH were already available in stores from December 7th. These beers are marketed under the name "Koblenzer" and are available as pils or wheat.
Königsbacher Brauerei GmbH & Co KG from 2010
From 2010 the corporate structure of Königsbacher Brauerei GmbH & Co. KG has changed significantly. Since 1992 the company has been part of the Karlsberg corporate association. In 2010 he sold the brand and distribution rights of Königsbacher Brauerei GmbH & Co KG for the beers with the brand names Königsbacher and Nette to the Bitburger brewery group. On January 1, 2012, Karlsberg also sold the brewery in Koblenz to private investors.
Sponsorship
As a sponsor, the Koblenz brewery supports various cultural events, such as the National Garden Show 2011 in Koblenz , and various sports clubs, including the fencing club, the Rot-Weiß Koblenz football club, the Red Knights American football team and the Moselweiß and Vallendar handball clubs. In addition, the brewery is involved in social and charitable areas.
coat of arms
The coat of arms of the Königsbacher brewery is shaped by a crown, a cross and the typical Königsbacher glass. The crown is the symbol of St. Mary , who is also the patroness of the city of Koblenz. The cross, which also appears in the city coat of arms , refers to the coat of arms of Kurtrier and thus stands for the affiliation at that time. The beer glass at the top, decorated with a barley ear, stands for the purity law , according to which the beers are made.
