Max Ziegelbauer
Max Ziegelbauer (born September 6, 1923 in Memmingen ; † November 21, 2016 there ) was a German theologian and auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Augsburg .
Life
After his theological studies at the Philosophical and Theological College Dillingen he received on May 21, 1950 - together with the later Domdekan George Beis - the ordination . After his first activity as chaplain in the Augsburg parish of St. Moritz, he became secretary to Bishop Joseph Freundorfer for four years in 1952 .
From 1956 he was pastor at the Maria Himmelfahrt parish in Memmingen for many years . On October 1, 1965, he received a position as vicar of the cathedral parish in Augsburg and was appointed to the cathedral chapter three years later . Since 1973 he has been a member of the KBSt.V. Rhaetia Munich .
On August 2, 1983, Ziegelbauer was appointed titular bishop of Lapda and auxiliary bishop in Augsburg by Pope John Paul II . The episcopal ordination received his Bishop Josef Stimpfle on 22 October of that year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Regensburg , Manfred Müller , and Auxiliary Bishop Rudolf Schmid . His motto as bishop is: Fundata supra Petram (“Founded on rock”). From 1984 to 1998 he was Episcopal Vicar for Church and Culture . On September 7, 1998, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
On September 11, 1988, Auxiliary Bishop Max Ziegelbauer consecrated six new bronze bells, which replaced the old bells of St. Josef in Memmingen . On November 21, 2016, Max Ziegelbauer died in the Memmingen Clinic at the age of 93.
Statements about the liturgy
In 2002, in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung, he emphasized that the Latin cult language is far more appropriate to the mystery of consecration than the German language, because the secret of our redemption takes place in the earthly eon in signs, images and words, as it were, concealed under one Veil . The exclusivity of the altarpiece of the priest versus populum was not initiated by the Second Vatican Council , but was introduced everywhere as a kind of compulsion.
