Johannes Eustache Egolf Reichsfreiherr von Westernach , also Johann Eustadi Egolph or Johannes Eustachius Egolphus (born November 2, 1642 in Arbon on Lake Constance ; † September 28, 1707 ) was auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Augsburg .

Johannes Eustache Egolf von Westernach came from the Swabian aristocratic family Westernach , named after Westernach, today part of the Upper Swabian town of Mindelheim in the Unterallgäu district . From 1616 the Lords of Westernach owned the marshal office of the Augsburg bishopric as a fief.

His uncle Johann Eustach von Westernach was the 44th Grand Master of the Teutonic Order .

After the death of Franz Ignaz Schenk von Stauffenberg (1656–1692) and Maria Anna Theresia Schenkin von Stauffenberg (1663–1693), born von Westernach, Emperor Leopold I made him the guardian of the underage children Joseph Ignaz Schenk and Maria Ludowika Schenkin ordered by Stauffenberg.

Life

Johannes Eustache Egolf von Westernach attended school in Dillingen from 1660. 1669 he was at the University of Ingolstadt to Dr. iur. utr. PhD . He was ordained priest on June 15, 1680 for the diocese of Augsburg. In 1681 he became chairman of the spiritual council of the diocese of Augsburg.

On July 10, 1681 he was elected auxiliary bishop in Augsburg and by Pope Innocent XI. confirmed as titular bishop of Dioclea . He was ordained bishop on September 14, 1681 by the Augsburg prince-bishop Johann Christoph von Freyberg . In 1693 he was raised to the baron status. In 1693 he was custodian of the cathedral , in 1698 provost and canon of Augsburg cathedral . In 1705 he became canon in Constance.
