Florian Wörner (born February 5, 1970 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) is a German Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Augsburg .

Life

Florian Wörner grew up in Eschenlohe and in 1990, after graduating from the Benedictine high school in Ettal, entered the seminary in Augsburg and studied Catholic theology and philosophy there and in Innsbruck . On May 4, 1997, he received the Augsburg Cathedral by Bishop Viktor Josef Dammertz the priesthood . He was initially a temporary priest in the parishes of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Augsburg-Pfersee and in St. Clemens in Eschenlohe. He then worked as a chaplain in Oberstdorf and Kempten .

In 2001 he became regional youth pastor of the diocesan region of Kempten and parish administrator of St. Theodor and Alexander in Haldenwang . Since 2006 he has been the head of the Episcopal Youth Welfare Office in Augsburg and diocesan youth pastor; at that time he was also active in the parish community of Ustersbach . In 2012 Florian Wörner became head of the newly founded Institute for New Evangelization and Congregational Pastoral Affairs .

On June 5, 2012 Wörner was welcomed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed titular bishop of Hierpiniana and auxiliary bishop in Augsburg. The bishop of Augsburg, Konrad Zdarsa , gave him his episcopal consecration on July 28th of the same year in the Augsburg Cathedral ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Anton Losinger and Josef Grünwald . On Christmas Eve 2016 he gave a guest appearance on the zither, which he has been playing since childhood, on the three-hour BR program “Christmas with Carolin Reiber ”. With 58 visitations between 2015 and 2019, Auxiliary Bishop Wörner is the most frequently used visitor to parish communities and parishes in the Diocese of Augsburg during this period. On June 9, 2020, Auxiliary Bishop Florian Wörner was appointed Cathedral Capitular by Augsburger Oberhirten Bertram Meier and is thus part of the ten-member advisory committee in administrative and pastoral matters of the Diocese of Augsburg. The " new evangelization " proclaimed by Pope John Paul II in 1985 is a matter close to his heart. He is close to the international Catholic youth movement " Youth 2000 "

In the German Bishops' Conference he is a member of the Commission for Education and Schools and the Youth Commission . The Freising Bishops' Conference made him its representative for youth pastoral care and church youth associations in Bavaria in 2014 .
