The 1998 Icelandic Football Championship was the 87th season of the Icelandic top football league . The league began on May 18, 1998 and ended with the last games on September 26, 1998.

Ten teams took part in the competition, which was held in a simple round trip. ÍB Vestmannaeyja successfully defended his title and won his third championship so far. Furthermore, the club won the double with a victory in the cup .

Both promoted players, Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur and Þróttur Reykjavík , failed to stay up.
