Icelandic Football Championship 1975

The Icelandic football championship in 1976 was the 65th season of the highest Icelandic football league . The league began on May 13, 1976 and ended with the last games on August 31, 1976.

Nine teams took part in the championship, which was played in a simple round trip. The title went to Valur Reykjavík for the 15th time .

Since the league should be played with ten clubs from the next season , the last team, Þróttur Reykjavík , did not rise directly, but played a relegation game against the second in the 2nd division, in which it was defeated.

    Relegation

    Due to the league increase Þróttur Reykjavík did not rise directly, but played against the runner-up in the 2nd division, Þór Akureyri , to keep the league. Þróttur Reykjavík lost 2-0 and was relegated.
