The Icelandic football championship in 1961 was the 50th season of the highest Icelandic football league . It began on May 28, 1961 and ended on September 10, 1961.
The title went to the reigning record champions KR Reykjavík for the 17th time . ÍB Hafnarfjörður had to be relegated as the last placed team, and was replaced by BÍ / Bolungarvík the next season .
