Icelandic Football Championship 1978

The Icelandic football championship in 1979 was the 68th season of the highest Icelandic football league . The league began on May 12, 1979 and ended with the last games on September 16, 1979.

Ten clubs took part in the championship, which was played in a simple round trip. For the first time since 1955 , five clubs from the capital Reykjavík took part.

ÍB Vestmannaeyja won the championship for the first time.
