The 1953 Icelandic football championship was the 42nd season of the Icelandic highest football league .

Six teams took part in the competition. First a preliminary round was played in the form of two groups of three, in which each team met the other two of the same group once. The two group winners played for the title in a final. This could win ÍA Akranes two years after winning the first championship.
