The Icelandic football championship in 1972 was the 61st season of the highest Icelandic football league . The league began on May 28, 1972 and ended with the last games on September 23, 1972.
Eight teams took part in the championship, which was played in a simple round trip. Fram Reykjavík was able to win the championship again for the first time in ten years, while newly promoted Víkingur Reykjavík failed to stay up.
