The 1997 Icelandic Football Championship was the 86th season of Iceland's highest football league . The league began on May 19, 1997 and ended with the last games on September 27, 1997.
Ten teams took part in the competition, which was held in a simple round trip. ÍB Vestmannaeyja won the championship for the first time since 1979 , the champion of the last five seasons, ÍA Akranes , was runner-up.
