UMF Stjarnan ( Icelandic Ungmennafélagið Stjarnan ) is an Icelandic football club from Garðabær , a municipality on the southern periphery of Reykjavík .

history

The association was founded in 1960. The men's division last played in 1997 in the Icelandic first division (then Landsbankadeild ) and in 2006 managed to return to the second highest division in Iceland. In 2008 the men were promoted and they have been playing in the Pepsideild since 2009 . The club became known in 2010 when it met with a great response through special celebrations on the Internet . In 2014, the team made it into the playoffs of the UEFA Europa League, where they lost 6-0 to Inter Milan after a 3-0 at home and 6-0 away. In October 2014, the men's team became Icelandic champions of the Pepsideild for the first time, and in 2018 they became Icelandic Cup winners for the first time, and in 2015 and 2019 they won the Supercup.

Women's soccer

The women of Stjarnan Garðabær played in the top division Pepsideild kvenna in 2006 and were Icelandic champions for the first time in 2011. In 2013, 2014 and 2016 the women’s soccer players were again champions of the Pepsideild kvenna.
