history
The association was founded on January 8, 1928 as KA Akureyri and merged in the same year with Þór Akureyri to ÍB Akureyri . In 1974 the merger was resolved and KA took part in the game operation again independently. In the 1970s and 1980s KA played intermittently in the highest Icelandic league and celebrated its first title by winning the Icelandic Football Championship in 1989. In the following years, the club could no longer build on these successes and mostly played only second class. For the 2017 season, the team rose again to the Pepsideild .
