UEFA Europa League 2013/14
UEFA Champions League 2014/15
The Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw was the venue for the final.

The 2014/15 UEFA Europa League was the 44th edition of the second most important competition for European football clubs , which was held under the name of the UEFA Cup until the 2008/09 season. 195 clubs from all 54 national associations of UEFA , including a representative from Gibraltar for the first time, took part in the competition this season .

The season began with the first leg of the first qualifying round on July 3, 2014 and ended with the final on May 27, 2015 at the Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw. Here, Sevilla FC defended their title by defeating FK Dnipro and is the sole record holder with four wins.

As before, the winner qualified for the 2015 UEFA Super Cup with this victory and was given a starting place for the first time in the following UEFA Champions League season.

qualification

The following allocation of the clubs to the individual qualifying rounds is determined from the UEFA access list, the ranking of which is based on the 2013 UEFA five-year ranking . If the cup winners of a national association had qualified for the UEFA Champions League 2014/15, the defeated cup finalist got the worst possible starting place of this nation in the qualification for the Europa League, while the other teams moved up accordingly and took over the next better starting place. If this defeated cup finalist was already qualified for the Champions or Europa League via the national league (such as in Germany or Spain) or the cup winner was already qualified for the Europa League, another team from this nation from the respective league got this starting place. If a club is not admitted to the UEFA competitions, the next best team in the national league moves up.

In the drawing for each individual round, the teams were placed in two pots according to their respective club coefficient 2014 (KK) , so that each seeded team (higher coefficient) competed against an unset (lower coefficient). It should be noted that qualification rounds 1 and 2 were drawn together. The higher coefficient will be used for the seeding list for the next qualifying round, even if the unsettled club should prevail. The same principle applied to qualifying round 3, as this was drawn before the second legs of round 2 had taken place. The actual coefficient is used for the draw for the playoff round, as this draw is made after qualifying round 3 has ended.

As the defending champions FC Sevilla had already qualified for the group stage through their national league, the Ukrainian Cup winners went straight to the group stage. In addition, the cup winners of the associations from Israel, Finland and Bosnia-Herzegovina as well as the league runner-up from Austria each advanced one qualifying round. As a result, one game less was played in the first qualifying round.

Group stage

48 teams from 26 national associations take part in the group stage, 7 teams were directly qualified, plus ten clubs from the Champions League qualification. Another 31 places were determined in the Europa League qualifying rounds.

The group winners and runners-up qualify for the sixteenth-finals, the third and fourth-placed finishers are eliminated from the competition. If two or more teams are tied after the group matches, the placement is determined by the following criteria:

  1. Number of points in direct comparison
  2. Goal difference in direct comparison
  3. Number of goals in direct comparison
  4. Number of away goals in direct comparison
  5. If, after applying criteria 1-4, two or more teams still occupy the same place in the table, criteria 1-4 are reapplied for these teams. If this does not result in a definitive placement, criteria 6–8 will be applied.
  6. Goal difference from all group matches
  7. higher number of goals scored
  8. Club coefficients

The 48 teams qualified for the group stage were divided into four pots of 12 teams on the basis of their club coefficient (KK), and one team from each pot was drawn into one of the 12 groups (A to L); Teams from the same association could not be drawn into the same group.

The draw took place on August 29, 2014 at 1 p.m. (CEST) in Monaco .

The game will be played on six days from September 18 to December 11, 2014, with kick-off times at 7:00 p.m. and 9:05 p.m.
