history

Molde FK has won the Norwegian Cup four times (1994, 2005, 2013 and 2014). In the 2011 season the Norwegian football championship was won for the first time, and in the 2012 season the title was successfully defended with one matchday before the end. In 2014 they even achieved the double of championship and cup victory. There are also nine runner-up championships. In 1999 the club took part in the UEFA Champions League . This makes Molde and record champions Rosenborg BK the only Norwegian clubs that have ever participated in the Champions League.

In the 2005 season Molde FK could only reach 12th place in the championship and therefore had to fight in two play-off games against Moss FK to stay in the top division. Molde won the playoffs 3-2 and 2-0 and thus played in the Tippeligaen in 2006 as well . As runner-up in 2009, Molde FK qualified for the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League . In the third qualifying round, the team met VfB Stuttgart and were eliminated after a 2: 3 home defeat and a 2: 2 in Stuttgart, with the Norwegians 2-0 up in the second leg up to the 54th minute, what a good thing Getting ahead would have been enough. Since the club did not live up to expectations with 20 points from 22 games in the 2010 league season, coach Kjell Jonevret was replaced by former GDR national player Uwe Rösler at the end of August 2010 . He in turn left Molde FK at his own request and moved to the English football metropolis of Manchester to vacate his post for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has now moved back to his home country after 15 years in Manchester. In 2011 Molde was Norwegian champions under Solskjær and then took part in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League . Both in this qualifying round and in those of the 2013/14 and 2015/16 seasons, Molde failed in the 3rd round. In the subsequent play-offs for the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League, the club was able to prevail in 2012/13 and 2015/16, so that they participated in the group stage. After being eliminated from the bottom of the table when they first participated, they reached the sixteenth-finals three years later as group winners in front of Fenerbahce Istanbul, Celtic Glasgow and Ajax Amsterdam, where they were eliminated against eventual cup winners FC Sevilla. In 2017 and 2018 the club was again runner-up.
