Surname
In the rules of the Norwegian Football Association , the league is referred to as 0. Divisjon , the name of which is determined annually by the association. The current official name is Eliteserien . From 1990 to 2016 the league was called Tippeligaen (betting league) after the sponsor at the time, the betting company Norsk Tipping .
From 1948 to 1962 the league was called Hovedserien , before that Norgesserien ("Norwegian League"). From 1963 to 1990 the top division was called 1. Divisjon . This designation was later used for the second highest class, but it was called Adeccoligaen from 2005 to 2013 and OBOS-Ligaen from 2015 (both names also after a sponsor).
regulate
The top Norwegian league consists of 16 teams (since 2009). From March or April to November each year, the Norwegian champions are determined in 30 games (one home and one away game). The two clubs at the bottom of the table are relegated to the 1st division . The third from last plays relegation games against the winner of the qualifying round of the 1st division.
In the 2009 and 2010 seasons, the third relegated or promoted team was determined in a final round with semi-finals and a final: The third from bottom of the elite series played at home against the fifth placed in the 1st division in the first semi-final. The second semi-final was played by the third placed (home team) and fourth placed in the 1st division (there was only one game each). In the final, the two winners played against each other in a return match. The winner was a participant in the elite series the following season. In the 2011 season, the qualifying tournament was abolished again.
