The 1. Divisjon 1974 was the 30th season of the highest Norwegian football league and the twelfth season under the name 1. Divisjon . The season began on April 28, 1974 and ended on October 13, 1974.

The twelve teams played against each other in a simple game round with a return game, so that each team played 22 games. Champion was the leader after the last match day. The last three teams had to be relegated.

season

Viking Stavanger was Norwegian champion for the third time in a row. It was the fourth title for this team.

The season was balanced. No team could really pull away. Only Molde FK had a three point lead. Otherwise it stayed with a maximum of two points. With three game days before the end of the season, five teams had the chance to become champions. Finally Viking prevailed again.

Of the promoters Molde FK , Sarpsborg FK and Vålerengens IF only Sarpsborg FK had to relegate.
