The Hovedserien 1956/57 was the 13th season of the highest Norwegian football league and the ninth season under the name Hovedserien . The season began on July 29, 1956 and ended with the final on June 16, 1957.

mode

The 16 teams played against each other in two groups, each with eight teams, in a simple game round with a return game, so that each team played 14 games. The two last placed had to be relegated.

The champion was determined in a final game between the two group winners. Compared to the previous season, some of the groups have been redistributed.

Fredrikstad FK became Norwegian champions for the seventh time. In the final, was odds BK 6: conquered first

Of the newcomers, only Årstad IL had to relegate. IL Sparta Sarpsborg , Steinkjer IFK and Strømmen IF were able to hold their own in the Hovedserien .
