Season course
Last year's champion Rosenborg BK was able to defend his title. They were only at the top of the table for a total of five game days. Only on matchday 20 they were able to outstrip the promoted and later second Bodø / Glimt by winning a direct duel. The team from Bodø / Glimt won the cup competition. The promoted Fyllingen IL had to relegate to the 1st division after only one season. In the relegation Strømsgodset IF for the first time since 1988 a team of the 1st Divisjon was able to prevail and rise.
The champions Rosenborg BK did not qualify for the Champions League because Norway were under - placed in the UEFA five-year standings. Instead, they had to compete in the UEFA Cup .
