The FK Bodo / Glimt is a football club from the northern Norwegian city of Bodø , which since the season 2018 again in the first-class Elite Series is launched. His greatest successes are winning the Norwegian Cup in 1975 and 1993 and four second places in the championship .

history

The club was founded in 1916 under the name Fotballklubben Glimt and has been one of the most successful clubs in northern Norway since the 1920s . After the opening of the Norwegian Cup for clubs from the north (1963), the first cup win came in 1975 with a 2-0 final win against Vard Haugesund . In 1976 Bodø / Glimt was also the first club in Northern Norway to move up to the top division, the 1st division , after the opening of the Norwegian league in 1973 for teams from the north of the country . The team was runner-up in the first year. After four years of first class, Bodø / Glimt rose again in 1980, in the 1980s the club only played third class at times. It was not until 1992 that they were promoted to the top division again, and a year later Bodø / Glimt won the Norwegian Cup for the second time with a 2-0 final against Strømsgodset IF . In the league, the team was runner-up two more times, in 1996 and 2003. She finished the 2005 season in last place and was relegated to the Adeccoligaen after 13 years of excellence . In the 2007 season, the promotion succeeded. After a good 4th place in 2008, the club had to start again in the second division in 2009 as the penultimate. This time it took four seasons before Bodø / Glimt returned to the first division in 2014. And in the years to come, the club was always involved in the relegation battle, which resulted in relegation in the 2016 season. However, this time the direct ascent succeeded. As a result, in the 2019 season, in the second year of renewed first class, even the fourth runner-up in the club's history was achieved.

European Cup balance sheet

Bodø / Glimt has so far taken part in European Cup competitions six times; of which three times each for the Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Cup ; the last time in 2004. The greatest successes were reaching the second round (1978, 1994, 1999, 2004) and a 3-2 home win against Sampdoria Genoa on September 15, 1994 .
