The Sparebanken-Sør-Arena ( German  Sparebanken-Süd-Arena ) is the football stadium of the Norwegian football club Start Kristiansand . The city of Kristiansand is located in the southern Fylke Agder and is the capital of Sørlandet . The sports facility offers 14,300 covered seats for football matches. Since the end of March 2014, the stadium officially bears the full name of the sponsor Sparebanken-Sør-Arena .

history

On January 11, 2006, construction work began on the modern stadium, which will replace the old Kristiansand Stadium . It takes its name from the Norwegian bank Sparebanken Sør . The sponsorship contract runs for 10 years; In addition, from 2007 to 2010 they acted as the shirt sponsor of Start Kristiansand.

Fifteen months later on April 15, 2007, the arena was inaugurated with the Tippeligaen game Start Kristiansand against arch-rivals Viking Stavanger , which ended in a 1-1 draw. In the beginning you had big problems with the poorly growing lawn. After the difficult early years, intensive work was carried out on the natural playing field and the space was very good. Nevertheless, in 2012 the natural turf was replaced with an artificial turf pitch .

When the plans for the sports facility were approved in 2005, the total cost was estimated at around NOK 177 million (approx. 21.7 million ); in the end, however, the costs rose to around 280 million kroner (approx. 34.4 million euros). Due to major financial problems, the club had to sell its shares in the stadium in 2009.

In addition to the Start Kristiansand games, concerts are also held in the arena. On June 26, 2007, the British singer Elton John performed in front of over 20,000 spectators. The American country singer Dolly Parton came to Sør-Arena on June 17, 2008 and gave a concert in front of around 8,000 fans.
