Sørlandet ( German  "das Südland" ) is one of five parts of Norway ( Norwegian landsdel ) . It is located on the Skagerrak coast in the south of the country. The area is also called Agder .

The name Sørlandet goes back to the poet, writer and local historian Vilhelm Krag . He first used it in a newspaper article in 1902. Initially, mostly only the coastal stretches of West and East Agder were meant. Until then, Agder had generally been understood as part of the Vestlandet.

Politically and administratively, Sørlandet was divided into the provinces of Aust-Agder and Vest-Agder , which merged to form Agder on January 1, 2020 ( Storting resolution of 2017). In 2017 the Sørlandet region had an area of ​​16,434 km² and around 296,000 inhabitants.
