The Viking Stadium is a football stadium in the Norwegian city of Stavanger . The city is located in the Fylke Rogaland at the southern tip of the country. The football club Viking Stavanger owns the facility and plays its home games here.
Stadion
The club's own stadium, opened in 2004, replaced the Stavanger Stadium , which was inaugurated in 1917 . Today it offers 16,300 covered seats (500 of which are standing) for football matches. The sports facility is equipped with modern facilities such as B. VIP boxes, infrared heaters under the stadium roof to warm the spectators and a lawn heating system.
The stadium would have been a possible venue for the 2016 European Football Championship , to which Norway and Sweden had applied together. There were plans to expand the stadium to at least 30,000 seats. On December 9, 2009, the two associations withdrew their application.
In addition to football, the arena is used for concerts. So were u. a. REM , Plácido Domingo , Bob Dylan , Bryan Adams , Sissel Kyrkjebø and Roger Waters ( Pink Floyd ) are guests at the Viking Stadium .
