Rogaland is a province ( Fylke ) in the southwest of Norway .

The province has a total area of 9376 km² (of which a land area of 8590 km²). The capital is Stavanger . It borders the provinces of Vestland , Vestfold and Telemark and Agder .

Before the reform of 1919, the province of Stavanger was called amt .

structure

Usually the province is divided into traditional areas. These are Haugalandet north of the Boknafjord , Ryfylke in the mountainous east, Jæren in the southwest and Dalane in the south.

Municipalities

Rogaland consists of 23 municipalities . On January 1, 2020, Finnøy and Rennesøy were merged with Stavanger and Forsand with Sandnes.
