Sør-Trøndelag ( German South Trondelag ) was a Norwegian province ( Fylke ) in the part of Trøndelag . It bordered the provinces of Nord-Trøndelag , Møre og Romsdal , Oppland and Hedmark, and Sweden . On June 30, 2017 the population was 318,359 (5.98% of the total population of Norway in 2014). The province had an area of 18,839 km² (of which land area 17,833 km²). The administrative seat was Trondheim .
On April 27, 2016, the two parliaments of Nord- and Sør-Trøndelag voted in favor of merging the two provinces. The association took effect on January 1, 2018.

Fylkesmen
The Fylkesmann was appointed by the king. Until January 1, 1919, his title was bailiff or bailiff . He was initially the highest local representative of the state and exercised both state and municipal tasks. Since 1976 he has been the sole representative of the state, coordinates the state administration in the province and exercised legal supervision over the municipalities.
