Selbu is a municipality in central Norway . The administrative seat is the place Mebond . The approximately 60 km² large lake Selbusjøen lies entirely within the Selbus district.

Selbu is very well known for knitwear, the hallmark of which is the "Selbu rose", which can also be found in the municipal coat of arms. The pattern was developed by Marit Emstad.

Structure of the community

The municipality of Selbu consists of the villages: Dragsten, Selbustrand, Tømra, Innbygda, Mebonden, Vikvarvet, Øverbygda and Flora. The administrative seat is the place Mebonden with 914 inhabitants. There is the oldest church in the parish from 1150. In Mebonden there is a nursing home, a volunteer center, a library, a craft shop, the town hall and three schools (a primary school (Bell Skole), a middle school (Selbu ungdomsskole) and the grammar school (Selbu videregående skole)). The island of Årsøya is also located in Mebonden and hosts festivals and other events all year round.

Innbygda is a village in Selbu municipality. A few large companies are represented in Innbygda, including the Kjeldstad sawmill, Tine, Selbuhus and Asti.

The village used to have a primary school, but it closed in 2006. The students are now being taught at the Bell School in Mebonden.

Sports

Selbu has many sports clubs that organize sports activities for children and adults.

There are many ski trails in Selbu with good conditions for winter sports. The most important is the well-known cross-country skiing center “Selbuskogen Skisenter” on the border between Selbu and Stjørdal. Various national and international championships have taken place there. Many people also practice downhill skiing.

The popular sport of handball is played in a large hall. A team plays in the 1st division. Football is also popular, for which there is an artificial turf pitch and local football pitches.
