Nærøysund is a municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Trøndelag resulting from the merger of the municipalities Vikna and Nærøy arose from 1 January 2020th The administration is divided between Rørvik and Kolvereid , the respective administrative centers of the merged municipalities.
The municipality borders on Leka and Bindal in the north, Flatanger and Namsos in the south and Høylandet in the east .
The municipality on the coast of Namdalen has about 9600 inhabitants. The name of the municipality can be traced back to the Nærøysund waterway of the same name, which separated the two former municipalities and is now seen as a connecting element. Other defining elements are the Foldafjord and a coastal area with skerries and holms consisting of approx. 6000 islands.
Economy and Transport
Nærøysundkommune is one of the largest fishing communities in Norway. In addition, agriculture is a defining economic factor.
The state road 770 connects Rørvik with Kolvereid and leads to the coastal road Fv17 in the east of the municipality. A speedboat connects Rørvik and Abelvær with Namsos , the next larger town on the mainland , three times a day . In addition, Hurtigruten ships call at Rørvik every evening . Outside Rørvik there is a regional airport, Rørvik Lufthavn , which is served by aircraft from Widerøe's Flyveselskap .
