history
Today's Orkland municipality consists of many former municipalities. The last change happened with the nationwide municipal reform when the municipality was reorganized from Orkdal , Meldal , Agdenes and parts of Snillfjord on January 1, 2020. A municipality existed under the same name between 1920 and 1962. In 1837 the area was divided into the municipalities of Ørland , Stadsbygd , Børsa , Hemne and Orkdal.
In the village of Løkken Verk , which belonged to Meldal until 2019 , a gravel pit was operated from 1654 to 1987. The Thamshavnbanen created the transport connection of the mine. From 1804 to 1984 the Agdenes fyr , a lighthouse for ships entering the Trondheimfjord , was operated in Agdenes . The lighthouse was then started by an unmanned direction light replaced.
economy
Agriculture mainly takes place in the form of animal husbandry along the Orkla. In Lensvik , which belonged to Agdenes until 2019 , strawberries are mainly grown and fur farms are operated. Forestry also plays a bigger role, in 2018 43,000 m³ of wood were harvested. In Svorkmo there is a hydropower plant with a drop height of 98 meters.
In the area around Orkanger, industrial production is also important. The most important is the metal industry and mechanical engineering. In Orkanger there is also an industrial port of the port of Trondheim .
The hospital in Orkdal is a larger employer, but many residents also commute to work in Trondheim .
