The Thamshavnbahn , in Norwegian Thamshavnbanen , is an electrically operated narrow-gauge railway near Trondheim , Norway .

history

Copper has been mined in the mine since 1864 , and pyrites were added later . Christian Thams founded Orkla ASA and initiated the railway line. On July 10, 1908, the railway between Thamshavn and Svorkmo started, on August 15, 1910 Løkken Verk was reached.

In 1963 the passenger traffic was stopped. Freight trains ran until 1974. In 1982 the Friends of the Thamshavn Railway was founded and the first museum train ran on the 75th anniversary of the opening of the railway line. On July 10, 1987, the ore mine was finally closed. The Orkla Industrial Museum is located there .

In Germany, the Thamshavnbahn is known for the use of the German steam locomotive series 99.22 in World War II .
