Randsfjordbanen to Hokksund

Krøderbanen is a railway line in Norway that connects Vikersund and Krøderen in Viken . The 26 km long, standard-gauge line since 1909 was built under the name Krøder en banen with a gauge of 1067 mm (3.5 feet). The term Krøderbanen has been used since around 1972.

history

Construction of the branch line to Randsfjordbane began in 1870. The opening took place on November 28, 1872. For the construction of rails with a weight per meter used 25 kg, which were ten feet long. The conversion to standard gauge took place in 1909.

The timber transport from Hallingdal to Drammen was the main source of income on the route. A steamboat line ran from Krøderen station at the southern end of Lake Krøderen to Gulsvik . The trip with the steamers D / S Haakon Adelsten (1861), Krøderen and Norefjeld took around 2½ hours. The last steamboat sailed in 1925. With the opening of the Voss –Gulsvik section of the Bergensbane on June 10, 1908, the traffic volume on the Krøderbane increased significantly. After the Bergensbane between Hønefoss and Oslo was opened in 1909 , this traffic only shrank to local needs.

Passenger traffic was stopped on January 19, 1958, and the section between Krøderen and km 119.5 was closed on January 1, 1979. The freight on the remaining portion was operated by 1 March 1985th

In the same year the Storting decided to keep the Krøderbane as a museum railway for posterity.

The area around the Krøderen terminus, including an approximately 2.6-kilometer section of the route, is a Norwegian cultural monument and has been awarded the Olavsrose . In addition, the Snarum , Sysle and Kløftefoss stations are served by the museum train, which runs three times every Sunday during the summer months.
