Hønefoss is a small town in the province ( Fylke ) Viken in southern Norway . Today it belongs to the municipality of Ringerike and in 2002 celebrated the 150th anniversary of its appointment to the city. The city has 13,775 inhabitants and covers an area of ​​9.5 km² (1,450 inhabitants / km²).

It is the natural trading center for the parishes of Ringerike, Hole and Jevnaker . Hønefoss is located north of Lake Tyrifjorden . The waterfall of the Begna river gave the city its name.

Paper production is the most important local industry.

Hønefoss is an important transport hub. The Bergensbane Oslo - Bergen runs through Hønefoss train station, where the Roa-Hønefosslinje (Jevnakerbane) branches off to Roa and the Randsfjordbane to the Randsfjord .

The main road E16 from Oslo to Bergen also runs via Hønefoss and meets Riksvei 7 to Hallingdal and Riksvei 35 to Hokksund and Lunner . The stone circle of Fjøsviken is west of the European route E16, north of Hønefoss.
