Mats Søhagen Berggaard (born August 24, 1995 in Hønefoss ) is a former Norwegian ski jumper .

Career

Berggard celebrated his first international start at the age of 13 at the FIS junior competitions in Zakopane in 2008 and Lahti in 2009. After good results here, he was part of the FIS Cup squad from December 2009 . Only one year later he was able to win the two competitions of this series in Notodden , Norway . At the age of only 15 he was the youngest Norwegian ever to win such a jumping. A short time later, Berggard was given a starting place in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup for the first time in Engelberg . After disappointing in the first competition as 41st, he surprisingly convinced in the second competition with an 18th place.

At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2011 in Otepää , he won the bronze medal with the team in the team competition after a 21st place in the individual. Only two weeks later it started at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2011 in Liberec . He managed to win bronze in the individual competition behind the Finns Jarkko Määttä and Ulrich Wohlgenannt from Austria . In addition, he surprisingly set a new hill record of 114 meters in the trial run. In the team competition he finished sixth with the team.

He also made a successful start at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck and won silver in the individual on the normal hill. Just a week later he started again in the Continental Cup in Bischofshofen and immediately reached seventh place. In February he just missed his first Continental Cup podium as fourth in Brotterode .

At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Erzurum in 2012 , he won the gold medal with the team and was 25 in the individual at the end of the day. In the summer he could not achieve any top placements in the Continental Cup. However, he started the 2012/13 season with a fourth place in Engelberg . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2013 in Liberec , he missed his third medal at the Junior World Championships and ended up only fifth with the team and eighth in the individual.

At the Norwegian Championships in Voss in 2013 , he won the bronze medal in team competition with Daniel-André Tande , Fredrik Aalien and Anders Jacobsen .

Berggaard finished the 2012/13 season in 75th place in the overall Continental Cup ranking.
